RE-TRAIN-HSP

Deelnemers gezocht: onderzoek naar een thuis trainingsprogramma voor mensen met HSP

De RE-TRAIN-HSP study investigates the effectiveness of a home-based training program. The program focuses on improving balance, walking, strength, mobility, and fitness in people with HSP

Do you have Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia (HSP) and experience problems with walking or balance? Researchers at the Radboudumc are looking for participants for the RE-TRAIN-HSP study. Life4HSP supports this research with a financial contribution of €55,124, made possible by donors.

People with HSP often experience stiffness, muscle weakness, and problems with walking and balance. This can make it more difficult to move around, increase the risk of falls, and sometimes reduce quality of life. Physical activity is beneficial for many people with HSP. However, there is currently no scientifically proven training program specifically for HSP. That is why Radboudumc has developed a training program that they want to test in this study. What makes this training unique is that it is individually tailored, can be done at home, and is remotely supervised by a physiotherapist from Radboudumc with extensive knowledge of HSP.

What does the study involve?

  • You train 3 times per week.
  • Each training session lasts 60 minutes and can be done at a time that suits you best.
  • You will have monthly online contact with a physiotherapist.
  • You will visit Radboudumc in Nijmegen at least 2 and at most 4 times for assessments. These assessments will take approximately 2.5 hours.

With the RE-TRAIN-HSP study, we want to determine how effective this training program is in improving walking and balance. We will also investigate the long-term effects. This will help us offer a well-founded training program specifically for people with HSP in the future.

Can I participate?

  • We are looking for people with pure HSP.
  • It is important that you currently exercise less than 3 times per week.
  • You must be able to walk for at least 6 minutes, with or without a walking aid.
  • You should not have any other neurological, heart, or lung conditions.
  • Only adults can participate in this study.
